There is something inherently wrong with political
office holders in Nigeria Take the case of Rivers State where the Government received nearly three hundred billion Naira from
the federation account and squandered it by becoming the Universal Donatus, donating to people from all works of life who
supported their future ambition to remain in power. The clergy, Obas were not left out in this show of shame. The recent revelation
by Sahara reports that the Speaker of the State House of Assembly kept in his private account N20b is disturbing.The ordained
successor to Governor Odilli should never be allowed to be.With a tainted image, he should bow out of the race. The EFCC
should as a matter of urgency round up everyone from the top to the bottom who planned, conspired and deprived the citizens
of Rivers State what was due to them. They should be made to suffer the same fate that befell Alamieyeseigha.Those who corruptly looted the treasury should be made to refund
all the ill-gotten money together with their families. They should never be allowed to hold any political office for the rest
of their lives. What is in the gene of our people in politics that makes them want to under develop their people with every
political opportunity that comes their way. From Council chairmen, to legislators; they have all brought disgrace to their
families and should hide their heads in shame. Those who hold political office, hold in trust for the people. It is not a
license to become reckless with the treasury. Every Rivers man and woman should exercise their right as a people to ensure
that these people should never be allowed through the streets of Rivers State flaunting their ill-gotten wealth again. The
EFCC should commence with dispatch the prosecution of these men. Anything short of that would mean that the war on corruption
is for a select few.

The year 2005 will go down in the history books as one that left
a lot of families in despair. Almost every region of the world experienced one form of tragedy or another. In Nigeria, it
was no different. One remarkable event was the inauguration by President Olusegun Obasanjo of the EFCC. Those who see the
EFCC as going after perceived enemies of the President can make all the noise that they want to make. They may not like what
the President has done, but we here do applaud Mr. President. A nation where the Chief executives of the various states act
like Santa Claus with the people’s money is one that is out of control. How can one explain why every governor is in
the habit of donating money to every organization that pays them a courtesy visit or worst still how can we justify the astronomical
funds wasted on chieftaincy acquisition by this dubious individuals. Ribadu is a man capable of performing a thorough cleansing
of the executives. Money spent without the approval of the people should be recovered and those who looted the treasury should
be exposed like the Alamieyeseigha. We at Onelga.com welcome the New Year with an assurance that there is still hope for the
ordinary citizen. Time has come for the people to match against all corrupt leaders in our country. For Ribadu to face the
enormous challenge ahead and succeed, he must be equipped with all the right tools. Those who work for him should be provided
with benefits that that will keep them above board. There should be no interference from the Presidency. Only the mandate
should be engraved in solid gold and it should read, “To Rid the Nation of Corrupt leaders”
Men and women of dishonor have no place in our new Nigeria. This
year will be one that will tell how serious the nation is in fighting corruption. There should be no sacred cows. We at onelga.com
